Ingredients

  • 1 cup Semolina (Rawa or Suji)
  • ¾ cup Yogurt (Curd)
  • ½ cup Water
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • 2 teaspoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 inch Ginger (grated)
  • 1 Green Chilli (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup Tomatoes (finely chopped (Optional))
  • 2 tablespoons Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 5 Curry Leaves (chopped)
  • 1 pinch Baking Soda
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard Seeds

Instructions

Steps for Appe Batter

  • Firstly, take a mixing bowl add 1 cup semolina/rawa, ¾ cup yogurt/curd,pinch of baking soda and ½ tablespoon salt.
  • Mix them thoroughly, make sure no lumps are left.
  • Add ½ of water if required in paste, paste must have medium consistency and keep it aside for at least 20 minutes.
  • Now, add garlic and ginger, along with remaining veggies like tomatoes, onions, coriander leaves finely chopped and keep it aside.

Steps for making Appe Tadka

  • Take as kadai/sauce pan, heat oil on medium flame.
  • Next, add mustard seeds and wait till it finish poping.
  • Later add curry leaves to it.

How to make Instant Appe

  • Moreover, now take the batter prepared on step 1 and mix it to tadka prepared in Step 2.
  • Now the batter is ready to make semolina/rawa appe.
  • Heat appe tawa and grease some oil with help of silicon brush in each holes.
  • Afterwards, take some batter in serving spoon and pour it in each holes. Make sure you fill it completely.
  • Allow the appe to get cooked for sometime. Meanwhile cover it with lid to quicker the process.
  • After 3-4 minutes open the lid and apply some oil to upper surface.
  • Further more now flip the appe with help of knife tip and ladle, the golden brown surface is now on upper side.
  • Apply some oil with silicon brush on it.
  • Let the flipped side to get cooked for another 2-3 minutes.
  • You can also check whether appes are cooked or not with the help of toothpick, if it comes out clean then it's cooked well.
  • Now remove all appes in plate and serve with sauce or cheesy dip.

Notes

  • Batter should be of medium consistency neither thick nor thin, if mistakenly it got thin than no issues you just have to cook for some more time and check with toothpick.
  • You can add other veggies too if you want.
  • Taste best when serve hot.
