Is there anything better than crispy homemade pommes right out of the oven?

I’ll show you how to make golden brown and crispy pommes yourself.

But first let’s learn some few things about this recipe

What is Oven pommes?

In English, “oven fries” is translated as “Oven Pommes”. Usually, instead of being deep-fried, these are potato fries or wedges baked in the oven. Potatoes are referred to as “Pommes” in German, and the word “oven” denotes the cooking technique.

What are some benefits of this recipe?

  • Self-made pommes with fresh potatoes are healthier and better for you
  • They also taste much better.
  • As baking uses less oil and retains more of the natural nutrients in potatoes, it is typically seen as a healthier cooking technique than deep-frying.
  • They are a rich source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and their nutritional content is more retained when baked compared to deep-frying.
Homemade oven pommes
  • Once they’re in the oven, you have enough time to prepare the main dish.

What do you need to consider when you make Pommes yourself?

  • Take predominantly boiling potatoes.
  • Your oven must be very hot and well preheated.
  • Heat it before you start cutting potatoes.
  • Use a wave cutter (Crinkle Cutter) for extra crispy fries.
  • This gives the potatoes a special surface which makes them crispy during baking.
  • Just do as many as you will eat. Pommes don’t taste the next day.
  • You don’t have to peel organic potatoes.

An alternative DIY way to prepare homemade pommes in the oven?

  • Cut the potatoes in 1 cm thick pins. If possible, all should be about the same thickness so that they are baked uniformly. To give the pommes a special shape and make them extra crispy, I cut them with a wave cutter.
  • Wash the potato sticks under cold water. Cook a pot of water, put the potatoes in a bowl, and pour hot water over it. Let it go for 10 minutes. Pour off the water and dry potatoes with a kitchen cloth or kitchen paper.
  • Mix them with oil and salt.
  • Place it on a sheet coated with baking paper and
  • bake them 30 minutes in the preheated oven at 230°C. Turn them after 15 minutes so that they get even brown.
