Ingredients for Making Dough of Onion Paratha

  • 2 cups Wheat Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ajwain seeds (alternative cumin seeds)
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (oil or butter is alternative)
  • Water (as required)

Ingredients for Making stuffing of Onion Paratha

  • 1 large Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 piece Green Chilli (finely chopped)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Chat Masala (alternative dry mango powder)
  • Red chilli (powder)
  • Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

Instructions

How to make dough for onion paratha

  • Take two cups of whole wheat flour in mixing bowl or any large vessel
  • Add salt and ajwain seeds / cumin seed to the flour
  • Now add water to the flour progressively and start kneading.
    Note: Don't add water at one this could make the dough too wet for making paratha.
  • When kneaded properly. Afterwards, cover the dough with wet cloth for 10 minutes

How to make onion stuffed Paratha

  • Take 1 large size onion, rinse it with water properly.
  • Chop the onion and green chili finely. Likewise, ingredients such add salt, red chili powder , chat masala / dry mango powder to the chopped onion. Add some part of finely chopped coriander leaves . Mix the ingredients well.
    Note: Chopping is a very essential part in this recipe. Finely chopped onions are easy for stuffing onion paratha. Whereas large pieces could not be stuffed properly while making onion paratha.

How to make Onion Paratha | Onion Stuffed paratha

  • Make palm size balls from dough.
  • Dust some dry flour on base and with the help of a roller make a small disc as shown in picture.
    Note: If you don't have a base for a roller, you can also use a chopping board.
  • As soon as you complete rolling the disc, add stuffing to it with a spoon as shown.
    Note: Don't over stuff onion paratha, recommended 1 spoon if you are a beginner. I used 1½ spoon here.
  • Now bring together the edges and join them together. Twist the top.
    Tip: This step is the same as making momos / dumplings .
  • Dust some more flour to base before you start rolling the stuffed dough of paratha.
  • Try to spread the stuffed dough of paratha with your finger.
    Note: This step will help to evenly distribute the stuffing inside the paratha dough.
  • Start rolling the dough with the help of a roller till the desired or thin enough.
  • Heat the pan on medium flame. After sometime, add the onion paratha to the pan.
  • When the onion paratha is cooked from the side facing the pan, flip it upside down.
  • Brush some ghee/ oil / butter on the cooked part of onion paratha.
  • Repeat the above step for the other side as soon as onion paratha is cooked properly.
  • Onion paratha is ready to serve, Serve it with pickle or Raita.
